Ali Arshad, Counsel, based in the Dubai office covers both the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman. He is experienced in acting on variety of contentious and non-contentious matters in both common law and civil law jurisdictions. He advises on corporate, banking, energy, power and water, TMT (technology, media & telecommunication) and construction matters.
Mr. Arshad advises sub and main contractors and employers on claims and regularly acts as counsel in several ICC and ad-hoc arbitrations relating to disputes under EPC and construction contracts as well commercial and telecommunications disputes. He also advises several sector regulated entities on compliance matters and with regulatory investigations.
Mr. Arshad also advises on commercial transactions and joint ventures. He acts for procurers, developers and lenders on large scale projects, such as road projects, independent power and water projects, regional electricity interconnection and development of cross border oil and gas pipelines and bulk storage facilities. Mr. Arshad has significant experience in acting on projects relating to the upstream, mid and downstream oil and gas sector. He has acted on several mining projects and establishment of chemical plants.
Mr. Arshad has contributed chapters on areas relating to his practice in various international publications. He remains a regular contributor to the World Bank “Doing Business” guide. He holds a Certificate in Legal Drafting from Boston School of Law.
Before joining Curtis, Mr. Arshad was a partner with a respected local law firm in Oman, where he headed a practice group.
He is noted by Chambers Global Guide 2016 as an “up and coming” lawyer and is praised for his “good, clear analysis of local legal issues.”
