]]> Curtis Client Granted Asylum in Pro Bono Case http://www.curtis.com/current_news.htm#2009_06_25 Thu, 25 Jun 2009 12:10:00 EST Curtis attorneys provided pro bono assistance to Rimma Yunusovna Kipkeeva, an ethnic Karachay and a citizen and native of the Republic of Karachaevo-Cherkessia in the Russian Federation seeking asylum in the United States. Ms. Kipkeeva is an English teacher who feared persecution if forced to return to Karachaevo-Cherkessia or anywhere else in the Russian Federation due to her political activities, her status as a Karachay woman forced into a traditional arranged marriage to an abusive man and her ethnicity. She was granted asylum on June 22, 2009 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Ms. Kipkeeva was referred to Curtis by Human Rights First, a non-profit international human rights organization based in New York and Washington, D.C.
