CURTIS BOOSTS SECURITIES ENFORCEMENT PRACTICE AND D.C. OFFICE BY ADDING PARTNER DAVID SEIDE

December 4, 2008, New York, NY – International law firm Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP has bolstered its growing Securities Enforcement practice within its White Collar Crime group with the addition of former federal prosecutor David Z. Seide.

Mr. Seide, who specializes in securities fraud cases, joins Curtis as a Litigation partner.  He will focus his practice in three main areas:  securities enforcement, white collar crime and business litigation.  Mr. Seide will be based in Curtis’ Washington, D.C. office but will also devote his time to serving clients from the    Firm’s New York office.

“David Seide brings his many years of SEC-related experience to Curtis at a key time when there are serious questions about what the future landscape of securities regulation will look like,” said George Kahale III, Curtis’ Chairman.  “Curtis is actively growing our Securities Enforcement practice and expanding our Washington office.  David Seide will be a valuable addition to our Firm and our clients by complementing the areas in which Curtis has already established itself.”

Mr. Seide focuses on the representation of individuals and entities in criminal cases, civil enforcement proceedings and civil litigation.  He has conducted a wide variety of internal investigations for public and private companies.  Prior to joining Curtis, Mr. Seide was counsel at WilmerHale as a member of its Securities Enforcement and Securities Litigation practice groups.

David Seide spent nearly 12 years as an Assistant United States Attorney in Los Angeles, where he was responsible for the investigation and prosecution of multiple individuals and organizations suspected of engaging in securities fraud.  Mr. Seide served as the Office’s Securities Fraud Coordinator, tried multiple criminal jury trials and handled over thirty Ninth Circuit appeals.

He has published articles in numerous publications, speaks regularly to industry and trade groups, has lectured at law and business schools, and has taught at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.  Mr. Seide is often quoted by The Wall Street Journal and other leading publications for comment about white collar criminal cases, securities fraud and related matters.

Mr. Seide is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, New York and California.  He earned his J.D. from New York University Law School, an M.P.A. from Princeton University, and both an M.A. and B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Curtis Represents KMG in Agreements Concerning Future Development of Kashagan Field, World’s Largest Oil Discovery in 30 Years

New York, October 31, 2008 – Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP represented KazMunayGas (KMG), the national oil company of Kazakhstan, in its successful negotiations with the North Caspian Sea consortium on the detailed agreements for the future development of the Kashagan field. The Kashagan field is reported to be the world’s largest oil discovery in at least three decades.

The North Caspian Sea consortium consists of Eni S.p.A., Exxon Mobil Corporation, Royal Dutch Shell PLC, Total S.A., ConocoPhillips Company, Inpex Corporation and KMG’s subsidiary, KMG Kashagan B.V., which now will increase its equity stake to equal that of the largest participants (Eni, Exxon Mobil, Shell and Total).

The Kashagan negotiations commenced more than a year ago following the announcement of huge cost overruns and delays in the development of the field.  The negotiations, which have been widely reported in the international press, initially resulted in a series of Memoranda of Understanding, the last of which, dated June 25, 2008, set forth the basic terms that have now been implemented in the detailed agreements signed today, October 31, 2008.

CURTIS LAUNCHES OFFICE IN DUBAI

October 15, 2008, DUBAI, U.A.E. - Curtis, Mallet‑Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP announces the opening of its newest office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.  The Firm’s new Dubai office, which will operate in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), will significantly enhance the Firm’s practice in the Gulf and Greater Asian regions.  

Peter Stewart, corporate partner and co-chair of the Firm’s private equity practice, will serve as the Managing Partner for the Dubai office.  Charles Buderi, corporate partner and head of Curtis London, will also spend considerable time in Dubai.  Select attorneys from other Curtis offices will relocate to Dubai to join the office.

The opening of Curtis Dubai is part of the Firm’s overall expansion strategy which also recently included new offices in Almaty, Astana and Istanbul and the expansion of the Firm’s Frankfurt, Oman and London offices.

Curtis Dubai will focus on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, project development, tourism and hospitality projects, energy and commodities, sovereign wealth funds, private equity funds, and dispute resolution in the DIFC.

September 2, 2008, New York, NY – Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP announces that Gabriela Alvarez Avila has become a partner of its Mexican affiliate, Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle, S.C. Her practice focuses on international arbitration. Ms. Alvarez Avila joined Curtis in Mexico as counsel in November 2007.
