Curtis Deepens its International Arbitration Practice Group

 

NEW YORK, April 29, 2009 – Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP has added a highly experienced practitioner, Claudia Frutos-Peterson, to its International Arbitration group.

“We believe in building on our strength in this area and are most pleased that this highly skilled and respected practitioner has joined us,” said Curtis Chairman George Kahale III.

Frutos-Peterson served as counsel to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) prior to joining Curtis. While there, she served as Secretary of the Tribunal in numerous arbitral proceedings brought under the ICSID Convention and the ICSID Additional Facility Rules. Frutos-Peterson is also an Adjunct Professor of International Commercial Arbitration at American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., and a frequent speaker at conferences on international commercial arbitration and investor-state arbitration. She received her first law degree from the University of Nuevo León, in Monterrey, Mexico. Subsequently, she received a Master’s Degree in International Economic Law and a Doctorate in International Commercial Arbitration in Latin America, with highest honors, from the University of Paris-I (Panthéon-Sorbonne) and an LL.M. in International Studies from Georgetown University. She is fluent in Spanish, English and French.

The firm’s International Arbitration group operates as an integrated team from offices in New York and Washington, D.C., in the United States, as well as Mexico City, Paris, London, Milan and Istanbul. The Group handles both commercial and investor-state arbitrations and is currently acting as counsel in several of the world’s most significant cases.
