Curtis Names 4 New Partners and 3 Counsel In U.S.


June 26, 2008, New York, NY – International law firm Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP has promoted seven attorneys, four to the partnership and three to counsel. Six of the attorneys are based in the Firm's New York headquarters and one in the Stamford, Connecticut office.

"These attorneys have all made major contributions to Curtis' global expansion," said George Kahale III, Chairman of the Firm. "These promotions along with the recent promotion of seven other attorneys in our European and Middle East offices reflect our continued commitment to growing our multinational partnership."

Curtis has experienced a 20% increase in the total number of its attorneys over the past year – and more than doubling the number of attorneys in its European and Middle East offices.

Partner Miriam K. Harwood, International Arbitration, has extensive experience in a broad array of commercial litigation and arbitration matters, including the representation of foreign governments in cases involving international law and foreign sovereign immunity issues; international arbitration, including both ICC and ICSID proceedings relating to disputes in the oil and gas industry; federal court actions and FDA regulatory proceedings relating to pharmaceutical products, including trademark infringement and false advertising claims; defense of securities fraud investigations by the SEC and Justice Department; and litigation arising in connection with Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. She is based in the New York office.

Partner Andrew D. Otis, Environmental Law, defends and represents clients in matters involving environmental laws, regulations and policies as they relate to transactions, litigation and enforcement actions. Mr. Otis has supervised due diligence investigations and negotiated contract provisions defining and allocating environmental risks and assets in domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, financings and real estate developments. He advises clients on issues associated with greenhouse gas emission reduction projects, including drafting and negotiating Emission Reduction Purchase Agreements and financing documents. Mr. Otis also has experience in international arbitrations in which there were numerous claims of non-compliance with major United States. and foreign environmental, health and safety laws. He is located in New York.

Partner Remy A. Rodas, International Corporate, focuses on business transactions and serving as lead counsel to companies and high-net worth individuals. Mr. Rodas represents and advises clients in the planning, structuring, management, negotiation, drafting and closing of their principal business deals. These include start-ups and joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, asset-based and unsecured debt, executive compensation arrangements, and sales and purchases of key products and services. Mr. Rodas' clients are involved in a wide range of businesses, principally financial services, manufacturing and global courier services. He is based in Stamford.

Partner Jonathan J. Walsh, Litigation, has worked on a variety of litigation matters, including criminal and civil matters in both state and federal courts. Recently, Mr. Walsh was a member of the trial team for Arthur Andersen LLP in the WorldCom class action trial in the Southern District of New York. He has also represented Arthur Andersen LLP and its partners in litigation involving Sunbeam Corporation. Mr. Walsh has represented clients in matters before the SEC, the Department of Justice, and various state and federal agencies. He also has experience in arbitration matters, including proceedings conducted under the auspices of the AAA, ICC and arbitrations utilizing the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. He is based in New York.

Counsel Myles K. Bartley, Litigation, focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, including significant experience with electronic discovery, securities, money laundering and civil RICO matters. Mr. Bartley has also been involved in major securities cases in the last ten years, including the Sunbeam, Cendant and Enron cases. Mr. Bartley also has considerable experience concerning the application of international law in U.S. litigation, including handling letters rogatory, forum non conveniens motions, requests for international judicial assistance under 28 U.S.C. § 1782, and the coordination of parallel or ancillary proceedings in foreign jurisdictions. In addition, Mr. Bartley has experience representing individuals in both criminal actions and enforcement proceedings. He is based in the New York office.

Counsel Jerrold L. Bregman, Bankruptcy & Creditors' Rights, has represented prominent stakeholders in large and middle market Chapter 11 cases, out-of-court restructurings, pre-packaged reorganizations, liquidations under the Bankruptcy Code, state law dissolutions, purchase and sales transactions involving distressed enterprises and assets, insurance liquidation proceedings, structured financings, commercial leasing transactions and disputes, and cross-border insolvency proceedings. Current and former clients include Chapter 11 debtors, liquidators of foreign insolvency estates, secured and unsecured creditors, equity holders, committees, bankruptcy claims traders, governmental entities, trustees in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 cases, defendants in actions to recover preferences and fraudulent conveyances, landlords and tenants, public and private business entities and high net worth individuals in a wide range of bankruptcy-related matters. Mr. Bregman is a Certified Specialist in Bankruptcy Law, California Board of Legal  Specialization, 1995. He is located in New York.

Counsel Michael J. Brown, Intellectual Property, focuses on corporate transactions involving intellectual property assets, such as licenses, mergers, acquisitions, financing, distribution agreements, trade secret and confidential information protection, and trademark, patent and copyright protection and registration in the United States and internationally. Mr. Brown represents clients in intellectual property litigation matters in U.S. Federal courts, including trademark, trade dress, patent and copyright infringement cases, domain name dispute arbitration under the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), and trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Brown has extensive experience in a wide range of intellectual property matters for clients of all sizes, in industries such as computer technology, fashion and apparel, cosmetics, advertising, hotels and travel.
