Curtis Restructuring Group Co-Chair L.P. Harrison 3rd Recognized as Fellow of INSOL International

New York, NY, December 9, 2013 –L.P. Harrison 3rd, co-chair of the Restructuring and Insolvency group at Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP, has earned the title of Fellow of the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Professionals (INSOL).

Mr. Harrison achieved the recognition by completing INSOL’s Global Insolvency Practice Course, an advanced educational qualification course focusing on international insolvency. INSOL created the course five years ago in response to the growing number of cross-border insolvency cases. The course provides practitioners and turnaround experts with the knowledge of transnational and international aspects of legal and financial problems of businesses in distress.

“The course was intense, yet rewarding. I gained an in-depth understanding of other insolvency regimes to augment and hone my skills developed from major cross-border cases that I have worked on in the past. Given the state of the market, I think it’s imperative that today’s restructuring professional gain an appreciation of the complexities, intricacies and challenges of cross-border work,” said Mr. Harrison, who served as a member of the editorial board of INSOL World from 2007-2009.

Mr. Harrison is currently leading the insolvency aspects of the firm’s representation of Lehman Brothers Holdings, Inc., the largest and most complex bankruptcy case ever filed. Other recent highlights of Mr. Harrison's practice include his key role in the firm's international representation of the Italian Extraordinary Administrator of a multinational dairy and food corporation and its affiliates in restructuring some of the company's subsidiaries in the United States and Latin America. Mr. Harrison also counseled the foreign representative of the first successful ancillary proceeding initiated by a "sindico" (a Mexican liquidator) in the United States since the enactment of Mexico's insolvency law, the Ley de Concurso Mercantiles.

The Curtis Restructuring and Insolvency group advises debtor companies, creditors’ committees, secured and unsecured creditors, financial institutions, equity owners and investors, trustees, liquidators and court-appointed fiduciaries, and foreign and domestic governmental agencies in all types of restructuring and insolvency matters both in and out of court.
