Curtis Partner Michael Graif and Counsel Jason Gottlieb Publish Article in New York Law Journal on Copyright Issues for Electronic Music

Curtis partner Michael Graif and counsel Jason Gottlieb co-authored the article “Copyright Trends: Substantial Similarity in the Age of Electronic Music” published in the special Intellectual Property section of the New York Law Journal on January 6, 2014.  The article examines the traditional markers used to determine substantial similarity between songs - melody, harmony, rhythm and lyrics - and the legal ramifications of the relative lack of those markers in modern electronic music.  The article also offers suggestions to practitioners and courts as to how to approach electronic music when applying the substantial similarity test.
