Robert García is a partner in the Litigation and International Arbitration groups, where he advises individuals, corporations, and sovereign entities in high-stakes dispute resolution proceedings. In particular, he advises States in matters related to sovereign immunity and the oil industry, especially in connection with crude oil pricing.

Mr. García has represented clients in litigation before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the Second, Fifth and D.C. circuits of the U.S. Court of Appeals, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. Notably, he was part of the Curtis team in the first Supreme Court case to ever address the expropriation exception to immunity under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (“FSIA”). He has also handled arbitrations under the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), and the American Arbitration Association (AAA).

Further to this commercial orientation, Mr. García has considerable experience representing individuals accused of serious criminal offenses. He has conducted numerous jury trials to verdict and argued over a dozen appeals in the courts of New York.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. García served as supervising attorney at The Bronx Defenders, the special litigation attorney at the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem, and staff attorney at the Office of the Appellate Defender.
