Established in 1963, the office focuses primarily on disputes. It is notable for excellence in both of its core practices of international arbitration and international trade, as well as its litigation before federal courts and sanctions (OFAC) work.

The arbitration team is well known for its success in international investment treaty arbitration as well as commercial arbitration. The team includes former ICSID counsel, professors of international law and attorneys who are active and contributing to thought leadership in this area of law. They work across the full spectrum of representation, from drafting arbitration clauses, through representing clients before arbitral tribunals and court proceedings relating to provisional remedies as well as recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards under all major arbitration rules.

Curtis’ global market leading international trade team has decades of experience on a broad spectrum of international trade law. The team gives practical and strategic advice to global companies on global trade, international investment, market access and export control. The Washington team is notable for offering excellence in regulatory/advisory counsel to corporates on their trade policy options; full representation in litigation and investigations before domestic regulators, particularly the U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. International Trade Commission, and the European Commission; as well as disputes before the World Trade Organization.

Our firm's Washington-based litigators have broad civil and criminal litigation experience representing both U.S. and foreign clients in government investigations, in litigated matters before state and federal courts and regulatory authorities, and in domestic and international arbitration proceedings. The team has particular experience in OFAC within the U.S. and compliance areas such as anti-money-laundering internationally.
