Avinash Poorooye is an associate in the firm’s international arbitration and litigation groups. His practice focuses on complex and high-value commercial disputes, international commercial arbitration, cross-border commercial litigation and public international law matters.

International Arbitration and Litigation

Mr. Poorooye is qualified in England & Wales and Mauritius with experience in a variety of industry sectors, including technology and intellectual property, telecommunications, real estate and construction, hospitality, franchising and extractive industries.

Mr. Poorooye’s experience covers international commercial and investment arbitrations administered by major arbitral institutions, including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), in addition to ad hoc arbitrations governed by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Rules and the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) Rules.

Prior to joining Curtis, Mr. Poorooye spent 2 years as Assistant Legal Counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, Netherlands and in Mauritius. At the PCA, Mr. Poorooye assisted tribunal secretaries and supported tribunals in inter-State, investor-State, treaty, and contract arbitrations involving States, and worked on appointing authority requests under the UNCITRAL and PCA rules.

As a practising barrister in Mauritius, Mr. Poorooye has also represented clients in civil and commercial litigation before various courts of Mauritius.
