Chambers recognized partner Lynn P. Harrison III is one of the leading bankruptcy experts worldwide. A key player in the evolution of Chapter 15 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, he has handled numerous complex international insolvencies.
Particularly focused on international insolvencies, Mr. Harrison has extensive experience in workouts, reorganizations, and liquidations on behalf of debtors, creditors, liquidators and trustees. His resumé includes some of the most high-profile cross-border bankruptcy cases, such as, the reorganization of China Fishery, Abengoa, Arcapita, and CRT Capital. He played a key role in advising a Mexican government development bank on the insolvency proceedings of Abengoa S.A., the largest energy company in Spain, and representing the Insolvency Administrator of a German consumer products producer on the Administrator’s Chapter 15 cases in the U.S.
Among his previous transactions, Mr. Harrison acted for the Italian Extraordinary Administrator of Parmalat S.p.A., a multinational dairy and food conglomerate, in restructuring several of the company’s subsidiaries in the United States and Latin America. He also represented the foreign representative of Gruppo Covarra S.A. de C.V. on the first successful ancillary proceeding initiated by a ‘sindico’ (a Mexican liquidator) in the United States since the enactment of Mexico’s insolvency law, the Ley de Concurso Mercantiles.
The international outlook of his practice is balanced by high-profile domestic Chapter 11 cases. Mr. Harrison’s clients include foreign and domestic corporations, both public and private; financial institutions; underwriters and governmental creditors. He advises them on Chapter 11 reorganizations, Chapter 15 ancillary proceedings, structured financings, distressed trades, asset and stock sales, and acquisitions. Mr. Harrison notably led the insolvency aspects of the firm’s representation of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. and its affiliates, the largest and most complex Chapter 11 case ever filed and has served as trustee in numerous insolvency cases.
Mr. Harrison is a frequent lecturer and writer on international and domestic insolvency issues and has spoken throughout the United States, Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia. He has been a featured commentator for Forbes magazine in the United States and Phoenix TV InfoNews Channel in China, and has been quoted by leading industry publications, including the Wall Street Journal.
Mr. Harrison is a member of the prestigious International Insolvency Institute (III), a Fellow of the UK-based INSOL, and a member of the World Bank’s Insolvency and Creditor/Debtor Regimes (“ICR”) Task Force. In 2019, he was invited to participate in the Second Circuit Judicial Conference, where he served on a panel alongside prominent U.S. bankruptcy judges.
