Dr Yaman Gursel is a qualified lawyer in Turkey, who holds a Ph.D. in comparative private law from Switzerland. He specializes in investor-state, construction, international commercial arbitration.

Trained in both academia and the private sector, his practice areas are diverse, encompassing energy trade, construction of power plants, refineries, oil well drilling construction and earth works, public infrastructure, food retail and distribution, and financial instruments in access to credit. Dr Gürsel has worked on several investor-state arbitrations under the arbitration rules of ICSID and UNCITRAL, mainly representing sovereign states.

Additionally, he has participated in multiple proceedings in international commercial arbitrations administered by ICC and PCA. Since joining Curtis, he has focused on international construction disputes arising in the Middle East, governed by English law, Omani law and administered under ICC and UNCITRAL ad hoc arbitration procedures.

Prior to joining Curtis, Dr Gürsel worked in Swiss arbitration boutiques in Bern, Geneva, and Zurich. During his doctoral studies in Switzerland, he assisted numerous tribunals in international commercial arbitration and sports arbitration matters.
