Jacob Kearney is an associate in the Litigation Group, where he focuses on complex commercial litigation and arbitration. He has assisted clients in a broad range of commercial matters, including cases arising from bond resolutions, pooling and servicing agreements, life settlement claims, and professional malpractice. Mr. Kearney has also represented entities in environmental (CERCLA) litigation, tax refund litigation, and white-collar criminal cases and investigations. Mr. Kearney also advises clients on cybersecurity and data privacy issues including response to unauthorized intrusion and the protection of electronic documents and data.
Mr. Kearney maintains an active pro bono practice and has represented clients in guardianship proceedings, in their application for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, and a defamation suit.
Prior to joining Curtis, Mr. Kearney clerked at the United States Attorney’s Office of the District of Columbia, where he researched and drafted briefs for the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. He also served as a legal intern for the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, where he conducted document reviews and assisted drafting committee reports.
While in law school, Mr. Kearney served as managing editor of the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal and was a recipient of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers’ Student Advocacy Award. He was also honored as an Exceptional Pro Bono Pledge based on his extensive pro bono service as a student.
