Tax Partner William L. Bricker Jr. Advises on World Renowned Architect’s First Project in China

Curtis Tax partner William L. Bricker Jr. has advised Santiago Calatrava, one of the world’s most well-known architects and engineers, on structuring and the tax issues related to Mr. Calatrava’s first project in the People’s Republic of China. Mr. Calatrava has been commissioned to design three major new bridges, accessible by automobiles and pedestrians, in the new city of Huashan, the capital of Hubei Province. The construction of the bridges will provide the necessary function of connecting the two lakes of the Yangtze River’s hydrological system and creating a core for Huashan. The bridges’ designs will incorporate Mr. Calatrava’s neofuturistic style with a focus on ecological sensitivity.

Recent projects by Mr. Calatrava include the World Trade Center Transportation Hub and St. Nicholas Church in New York City, Sharq Crossing in Qatar, the Peace Bridge in Calgary, Canada, and the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro. His art was been exhibited throughout the world including at New York City’s Marlborough Gallery.  His sculptural work will be exhibited along the central median on Park Avenue in New York City from June 8, 2015 through mid-November 2015.
