Four Curtis Restructuring Matters Receive Turnaround Atlas Awards


New York, NY, June 29, 2015 – Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP played a major role in four significant matters which were recognized with 2015 Turnaround Atlas Awards.

In addition to the deal awards, Steven J. Reisman, co-chair of Curtis’ Restructuring & Insolvency group was named Restructuring Lawyer of the Year for 2015 and, for the third straight year, as one of Top 100 Restructuring & Turnaround Professionals in 2015.

The annual Turnaround Atlas Awards honors excellence in the categories of best value-creating turnaround deals, sought-after professionals and outstanding firms from the international restructuring, special situations M&A, judicial and out-of-court reorganizations industries. The Awards were given out by the Global M&A Network at its annual Gala in Chicago on June 23. The four honored Curtis matters were:

  • Pre-packaged Restructuring of the Year (Restructuring value above $1 billion) - Genco Shipping & Trading restructuring. Curtis served as conflicts counsel to the Debtors.


  • Insolvency of the Year - Coldwater Creek Chapter 11 Plan of Liquidation and sale of assets. Curtis represented a joint venture between Gordon Brothers and Hilco Retail Partners, which liquidated the assets and assisted in the transfer of the intellectual property.


  • Consumer Goods Turnaround of the Year - Clearlake Capital Group acquisition of Ashley Stewart under Chapter 11 auction. Curtis represented the Debtor, Ashley Stewart, in gaining approval of the sale of its assets in 43 days.


  • Turnaround of the Year (Large Markets) (Restructuring value $2.5 to 10 billion in or out of court) - Momentive Performance Materials Chapter 11 Plan of Reorganization. Curtis represented Wilmington Trust, as indenture trustee to 10% Senior Secured Notes in an original principal amount of $250 million,


The 2015 Turnaround Atlas Awards are the latest in a series of honors in the past 12 months recognizing the work done by Curtis’ Restructuring and Insolvency group and its lawyers.

  • Earlier this year, the M&A Advisor Turnaround Awards recognized the Genco Shipping & Trading as the Industrial Manufacturing/ Distribution Deal of the Year and the Ashley Stewart restructuring as both the Restructuring of the Year ($10 million to $50 million) and Retail Manufacturing/ Distribution Deal of the Year. In addition, the Chapter 11 case of FriendFinder Networks was named M&A Advisor’s Restructuring of the Year ($500 million to $1 Billion) as well as its Technology, Media and Telecom Deal of the Year (US$100 million - US$1 Billion). Curtis represented Wilmington Trust, as indenture trustee.


  • In 2014, Curtis received Turnaround Atlas Awards for its instrumental roles in the Chapter 11 cases of Residential Capital and Patriot Coal. In both cases Curtis acted as conflicts counsel to the Debtors. Curtis was also recognized for its role in the Chapter 11 reorganizations of Rural/Metro Corporation and FriendFinder Networks, cases in which Curtis represented Wilmington Trust, as indenture trustee.
