L. P. Harrison 3rd Addresses Bank Insolvency at INSOL’s Africa Round Table 2015
Speakers: Lynn P. Harrison III

L. P. Harrison 3rd, co-chair of Curtis’ Restructuring and Insolvency Group, was one of the featured speakers at INSOL’s Africa Round Table 2015 held in Cape Town, South Africa on October 12 and 13.

Mr. Harrison spoke on the Bank Insolvency panel where he discussed and recounted some of the lessons learned and protocols developed arising from the Great Depression of the 1930s, the S&L Crisis in the 1980s and the recent Great Recession concerning banks and other financial institutions in the U.S.

The session explored some of the key elements relating to bank insolvency and crisis management while focusing on the issues facing a number of jurisdictions in Africa which are experiencing failures of banks and other financial institutions. The theme for this year’s Africa Round Table was “Restoring Financial Sector Stability: the role of insolvency regimes.”

Mr. Harrison’s participation received coverage in the March 2016 edition of Global Restructuring Review.

Delegates from approximately 20 African countries, including local members of the South African bar, participated in the conference. Many leading international organizations, including representatives from the World Bank, UNCITRAL and OHADA, were also present.

Mr. Harrison is a fellow of INSOL (International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Professionals), a world-wide federation of national associations for accountants and lawyers who specialize in turnaround and insolvency.
