Curtis Opens in Turkmenistan

New York, NY, May 23, 2011 - Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP has opened a new office in Ashgabat, becoming the first international law firm to do so. The office will focus on international arbitration, infrastructure development and public projects in Turkmenistan and the region in general, working closely with other Curtis offices.

"This was a logical next step for us, given our expertise in energy, infrastructure development and international arbitration,” said Curtis Chairman George Kahale III.  “We have already had the privilege of being engaged in very important matters and are most grateful for the warm welcome we have received.”

The new office is located in the Yimpas Business Center in the heart of Ashgabat’s administrative and business district at 54 Turkmenbashy Ave., Suite 301-A.  It now has seven lawyers, and is headed by Partner Ali R. Gursel, who also manages the Firm’s Istanbul office.

The move to Ashgabat continues the Firm’s recent expansion in Central Asia. Ashgabat  becomes the third Curtis office in the region after Astana and Almaty in Kazakhstan.
