The NYSBA’s International Section is dedicated to promoting the practice of both public and private international law and the support of the rule of law throughout the world.  The Section has more than 2000 members world-wide.

“I am honored to be chosen by my colleagues to lead the International Section at a time when the practice of law has become truly global,” said Mr. Otis.  “I am looking forward to working with our members to grow the Section, implement its missions and develop new programs in key areas.”

The International Section has more than 30 committees covering virtually every aspect of private and public international law.  It offers members a wide array of conferences, seminars, web-conferencing, and informational and educational meetings.

The Section has more than 60 chapters in many of the most important legal jurisdictions of the world, which provide educational and networking opportunities for Section members abroad and foster cooperation and dialogue between the Section and the legal communities of other countries.

The Section sponsors a three-day conference each fall in an important jurisdiction outside the United States.  Recent conferences have been held in London, Shanghai. Lima, Stockholm, Singapore and Sydney.  This year's meeting will be held in Lisbon, Portugal from October 10-13.

Mr. Otis also co-chairs the NYSBA’s International Environmental Law Committee, a joint committee of the International and Environmental Law sections.

At Curtis, Andrew Otis is a partner in the Environmental group.  He represents clients in matters involving environmental laws, regulations and policies as they relate to permitting major project transactions, litigation and enforcement actions.   Mr. Otis has experience in international arbitrations having numerous claims of non-compliance with major U.S. and foreign environmental, health and safety laws.

Prior to joining Curtis, Mr. Otis spent nine years at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), where he played a key advisory role in policy areas such as global climate change, use of market mechanisms and economic analysis methodology.  Mr. Otis has developed and taught classes in environmental policy and law at both Indiana University and Vassar College.

Mr. Otis earned his law degree from the Indiana University School of Law. He also has a master’s degree in public policy from Indiana University.  He earned his B.A. at the State University of New York at Geneseo.
