Nadia Darwazeh to Join Curtis Paris Office as Counsel in International Arbitration

Paris, September 10, 2012 - Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP has announced that Nadia Darwazeh has joined the firm’s International Arbitration practice in September as counsel, based in the Firm's Paris office.  Ms. Darwazeh comes to Curtis from the ICC International Court of Arbitration, where she served as counsel for the Europe, Middle-East, Africa Team.

"We are delighted that Nadia Darwazeh has joined Curtis,” said Peter M. Wolrich, co-chair of Curtis’ International Arbitration group and Managing Partner of Curtis in Paris.  “Nadia is very well regarded in the field with her deep knowledge of the French, Middle-East, Asian and North-African arbitration markets.  She will be an excellent addition to our highly ranked international arbitration practice with her top level experience.”

At the ICC, Ms. Darwazeh supervised, at any one time, more than 200 international arbitrations in French and English; managed a six-member team; scrutinized more than 100 awards, provided advice to arbitrators and parties of ICC procedure and practice; led arbitration workshops in the Middle East and North Africa; and was closely involved in setting up the Jerusalem Arbitration Center.

She also brings to Curtis nearly a decade of experience as counsel having worked for leading firms in London, Frankfurt and Shanghai.

"Curtis offers a great platform for international arbitration with highly reputable practitioners around the world,” said Ms. Darwazeh.  “Curtis is particularly appealing because the firm handles both international commercial and investor-state arbitration.  It is exciting to be able to share my passion for arbitration with such a first-class team.  I look forward to helping the practice grow even further.”

Ms. Darwazeh has published more than a dozen articles concerning key arbitration issues, including “Clues to Construing the New French Arbitration Law: An ICC Perspective on Procedural Efficiency, Good Faith and Independence,” in the August 2011 edition of the Journal of International Arbitration.  She also frequently lectures to both professional and academic audiences on relevant arbitration matters.

Ms. Darwazeh has been admitted as a Solicitor-Advocate in England and Wales and as Rechtsanwältin in Germany.  She earned her LLM in International Public Law from the University of Cambridge and her LLB from The University of Warwick.  She is proficient in English, French, German, Mandarin Chinese and Dutch.
