Juan Carlos Boué is counsel in Curtis’ international corporate and arbitration practice, focusing on transactions and disputes.

Prior to entering law, Mr. Boué worked extensively in the oil and gas sector, alternating between roles in industry and academia. He spent nearly a decade with the international trading arm of Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), the Mexican national state oil company, where he became the manager in charge of the commercial aspects of all of Mexico's crude oil exports. In addition, he served as the secretary of the inter-ministerial government committee entrusted with reviewing all oil export pricing and policies. He was also a special advisor to the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum of Venezuela, and sat on the boards of various oil refining companies.

From 2010 to 2018, Mr. Boué was a senior research fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. He has written widely on the industrial economics of oil and gas exploration and production, petroleum refining, auction design for oil and gas bidding rounds, and the taxation and political economy of oil in general.

A Mexican national, Mr. Boué received his B.A. from El Colegio de México, later obtaining a degree in jurisprudence at Oxford University.
