Meruyert Shaimerdinova is Counsel in the Corporate Group and has a practice that encompasses international arbitration, commercial and corporate law.

Investor-State Arbitrations

Ms. Shaimerdinova has been involved in investor-state arbitrations under the rules of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) across a variety of sectors, including construction, energy, oil and gas and pharmaceutical industries. Her experience includes the representation of both states and state-owned entities in international arbitrations. She also represented a respondent in the World Bank Sanctions Proceedings.

Corporate and Commercial Law

Ms. Shaimerdinova’s corporate and commercial law experience includes acquisitions, consulting both private and state-owned entities on civil law, labor law, subsurface use, antimonopoly regulation.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Shaimerdinova worked at the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, where she focused on international arbitration, international law and national law regulating arbitration in Kazakhstan. Previously, she had worked in the legal group of an international consulting and audit firm, advising on corporate, labor and commercial legal issues, performing due diligence and providing legal support during mergers and acquisitions, consulting on subsurface use issues and advising on the restructuring of a national oil and gas company.
