Kevin Meehan serves as Chair of Curtis’ Economic Sanctions practice and is a seasoned litigator who has represented clients in courts throughout the United States and in various arbitration venues around the world.

Economic Sanctions

Mr. Meehan advises a variety of clients – including States, State-owned entities, private companies and individuals – on matters concerning complex, ever-evolving economic sanctions laws. Curtis’ Economic Sanctions group leverages the experience of attorneys in multiple practice groups across the firm’s worldwide offices to provide coordinated and comprehensive advice on U.S., U.K., E.U. and U.N. sanctions regimes. In addition to advising clients, Mr. Meehan has extensive experience litigating sanctions issues in U.S. courts.

International Litigation

Mr. Meehan is one of the foremost experts on matters relating to the immunities of States, foreign officials, diplomats and international organizations. Mr. Meehan has unrivaled experience litigating novel and complex issues under the U.S. Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA), the U.S. International Organizations Immunities Act (IOIA) and various international treaties on immunity. He has represented numerous States and State-owned entities across Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia in courts through the United States, including the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mr. Meehan represents both State and private clients in a variety of commercial cases in the United States and has particular expertise representing clients in actions to enforce arbitral awards. He routinely collaborates with attorneys across Curtis’ 19 offices and utilizes Curtis’ contact networks in Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia to coordinate multijurisdictional legal strategies.

International Arbitration

Mr. Meehan has extensive experience representing clients in investor-State and international commercial arbitrations conducted under the auspices of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the American Arbitration Association (AAA), the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), the International Center for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) and the International Chamber of Commercial (ICC) as well as ad hoc arbitrations, including arbitrations conducted under UNCITRAL rules.
