He regularly represents and advises corporations and sovereign States in complex international disputes across sectors including defense, construction, energy and natural resources, aviation, infrastructure, telecommunications, technology and financial services. In recent years, he has acted as counsel and advocate in several bet-the-company and politically sensitive international arbitrations.
Mr. Malas also represents clients in litigation before the High Court and Court of Appeal of England and Wales, and the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, where he holds full rights of audience. He has advised on proceedings before the courts of the United Arab Emirates and has assisted with investigations and asset-tracing in matters involving allegations of fraud and corruption.
Mr. Malas maintains an active advisory practice. He counsels States on their rights and responsibilities under international law and advises State entities on legal issues arising from infrastructure and energy projects, public-private partnerships and public-sector procurement. He also advises international corporations on the structuring and protection of foreign investment and on regulatory compliance.
Natively bilingual in English and Arabic, Mr. Malas conducts written and oral advocacy in both languages. His work frequently engages Arab legal systems and matters connected to the Middle East.
Before entering private practice, Mr. Malas worked as a consultant to a former Prime Minister of Jordan on public-private partnerships and policy development, and trained at the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
