International Arbitration
Mr. Stergianopoulos has particular experience in the representation of sovereign States, central banks, national oil corporations, sovereign wealth funds and other State-related entities in disputes spanning a variety of sectors, such as banking regulation, sanctions, oil & gas, construction and infrastructure, and shipping.
He is recognized by Legal 500 UK 2026 for his international arbitration work, which includes international investment as well as international commercial arbitrations under various rules such as International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), and the London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA).
International Litigation
Mr. Stergianopoulos’ international litigation practice focuses on advising clients involved in proceedings before different fora, including the courts of England and Wales, Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Malta, the Netherlands, the Cayman Islands and the U.A.E.
He has considerable success in court proceedings for the recognition, enforcement and execution of international arbitration awards and foreign court judgments against States and State-related entities. Alongside his court experience, he advises States and State-related entities in non-contentious matters that entail aspects relating to the potential enforcement and execution of international arbitral awards and foreign court judgments.
International Sanctions
Mr. Stergianopoulos is notable for his sanctions practice, and advises on the UN, UK and EU sanctions programs. His clients span a National Competent Authority of an EU Member State, a sovereign wealth fund of a North African State as well as banking institutions, investment funds, energy and insurance companies in relation to their global transactions and operations that may give rise to sanctions issues under different sanctions regimes (e.g., relating to Russia, Belarus, Iran, Libya, Sudan and Niger).
M&A, Corporate Law and Oil and Gas
Mr. Stergianopoulos has considerable experience in advising corporate clients in M&A transactions. Most recently, he represented a European asset management company in a hive-down transaction and a private investment holding company in the acquisition of an oil & gas company in Africa.
He has also extensive experience advising State-related entities, including national oil corporations and sovereign wealth funds, as well as private clients on general oil & gas and corporate matters. He is recommended by Legal 500 UK 2026 for his oil & gas work
