New York-based Enrique J. Urdaneta is an associate in Curtis’ International Arbitration and Corporate groups. He has experience advising in investment treaty disputes, commercial arbitrations, and a wide range of corporate transactions.
In his arbitration practice, Mr. Urdaneta has represented States and state-owned entities in investment disputes conducted under the auspices of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), as well as private companies in international commercial arbitrations under the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
Mr. Urdaneta possesses a comprehensive legal background that bridges the gap between cross-border corporate advisory and international arbitration. In addition to his work in investment treaty and commercial disputes, he regularly advises clients on energy-related project finance, and the structuring of transnational commercial agreements.
From 2015-2016, Mr. Urdaneta served as an associate at the firm’s Mexico City office, where he focused on commercial arbitrations as well as on the legal implications of Mexico’s 2014 energy reform, the most significant overhaul of legislation in the Mexican oil and gas sector since 1938.
Mr. Urdaneta also serves as a panelist and guest lecturer at conferences and seminars across the United States and Latin America, addressing modern trends in international arbitration, crypto-assets, and the legal implications of artificial intelligence.
A Venezuelan national, Mr. Urdaneta is dual qualified in New York and Venezuela. He speaks Spanish and English fluently.
