Marat Umerov Speaks at the Washington Arbitration Week
Integrated cross-border teams at Curtis have a tradition of building long-term client relationships in the renewable/green energy sphere, assisting them on authorization and environmental issues, including so-called ‘green certificates.' The team also acts on project development and project financing transactions for the construction and operation of renewable and photovoltaic energy plants and advises on general corporate, finance, labor and employment, real estate, competition, intellectual property, tax and administrative law issues arising from transactions in the renewables sector.
Clients can be confident of the renewable/green energy law expertise at Curtis. The team has vast experience of advising on global matters across the industry and has particularly deep knowledge of the solar power sector. We represent governments, developers of renewable energy and greenhouse gas emission reduction projects, greenhouse gas emitters, electricity and credit off-takers, project lenders, and private equity funds investing in such projects. In addition to solar power, the team’s track record includes acting on matters affecting wind energy; geothermal energy; hydroelectric energy; biodiesel, biomass and methane capture and ocean energy, both thermal and mechanical.
The Renewable Energy group represents clients worldwide, including the United States, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Its long-standing commitment to Latin America is emphasized by the firm’s Mexico City office, the hub of the firm’s Latin America practice. All of its lawyers are bilingual and many hold law degrees from Latin American jurisdictions, which places Curtis in a unique position among international law firms. Other centers of excellence where our green energy sector expertise resides include Rome and Muscat.
You can additionally rely on our considerable experience of litigation and arbitrated matters, where we have represented clients before national and international courts and institutions, as well as national and international arbitral bodies. Clients of Curtis often participate in greenhouse gas emission reduction markets, such as the Kyoto Protocol, European Union Emissions Trading Scheme, and voluntary and regulated carbon markets in the United States.
The Curtis team will assist in every area of your most commercially critical renewables enterprises, including signature of non-binding agreements to structure proposed deals; exercise of legal due diligence exercise covering corporate, legal title over lands, permits and authorizations, interconnection, tax and incentives regime; negotiation of the relevant financing to be granted by lenders to possible investors and drafting, structuring and negotiation of EPC contracts, O&M services agreements and general supply agreements.
