New York, March 4, 2011 - Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP has announced that Michael A. Cohen has joined the international law firm as a partner in its Restructuring and Insolvency practice group. He will be based in the firm's New York office. Mr. Cohen comes to Curtis from Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where he was a partner in the Restructuring group and focused primarily on Chapter 11 and out-of-court restructurings. 'I am extremely excited about joining Curtis and the broad range of opportunities it presents,' said Mr. Cohen. 'I am very much looking forward to contributing my skills and commitment to client service to the continued success and growth of the Curtis Restructuring and Insolvency practice.' Mr. Cohen has extensive experience representing and advising debtors and creditors in all facets of the corporate restructuring and bankruptcy process. Over the past several years, Mr. Cohen played an important role in representing the debtors in some of the largest and most complex chapter 11 cases, including NRG Energy, Inc., Cornerstone Propane, L.P., Solutia Inc., Wellman, Inc. and Tronox Incorporated. In addition, Mr. Cohen has advised parties in connection with investments in distressed debt, the acquisition of distressed assets and in their capacity as major creditors in chapter 11 cases and out of court workouts. Mr. Cohen earned his J.D. at Tulane University School of Law and his B.A. at Washington University in St. Louis. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Turnaround Management Association.
