September 2, 2008, New York, NY — Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP announces that Gabriela Alvarez Avila has become a partner of its Mexican affiliate, Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle, S.C. Her practice focuses on international arbitration. Ms. Alvarez Avila joined Curtis in Mexico as counsel in November 2007.
"Since coming aboard, Gabriela has become an integral part of our international arbitration practice, which is now one of the Firm's most vibrant areas," stated George Kahale III, the Firm's Chairman. The Firm is currently handling several of the world's most significant investor/state arbitrations.
Prior to joining Curtis, Ms. Alvarez Avila was senior counsel to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). During her seven years at ICSID, she administered arbitration cases as secretary of tribunals hearing cases in Spanish, English and French. The arbitration proceedings in which she participated included claims based on bilateral investment treaties, the North American Free Trade Agreement, the Central American Free Trade Agreement, national investment laws and international contracts. She has lectured widely on investor/state arbitration and is a member of the ICC National Arbitration Commission for Mexico.
