Frankfurt, June 10, 2021 – Curtis is pleased to announce the appointment of corporate M&A lawyer Dr. Georg Rützel as Special Counsel in the firm’s Frankfurt office, effective May 1, 2021.

Dr. Rützel combines over a decade of in-house experience gained with GE, wind turbine manufacturer Senvion and German technology company e-shelter services, with 15 years of private practice at leading international firms.

A veteran corporate and regulatory M&A lawyer, Dr. Rützel brings significant experience in capital markets, and commercial and compliance matters in regulated industries, with a particular focus on the energy sector. Over the course of his career, he has led internal compliance and cartel law investigations, and offers a breadth of commercial experience in this area. His career spans nearly a decade with GE, as general counsel for the global growth of its organization in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and in senior legal roles with GE Gas Engines and for GE Energy in Germany.

Dr. Rützel received his Dr. Juris from Westfälische-Wilhelms Universität in Münster/Germany, and was admitted to the German Bar in 1993. He is fluent in German and English.

Curtis Chairman, George Kahale III, said “I am delighted to welcome Georg to our international practice. His breadth of experience and commercial focus complement our European corporate group, and his appointment reflects the firm’s commitment to Europe.”

Frankfurt managing partner Marc V. Kramer said, “Georg’s blend of top notch in-house experience with a strong background in private practice is the perfect fit for our team in Frankfurt. Clients doing business within the EU or looking to enter this market will also appreciate his regulatory experience at the national and EU level.”

Georg Rützel comments: “Having known the Curtis team in Frankfurt for some time, I was attracted to the firm’s entrepreneurial spirit. Curtis’ commitment to Europe is clear, with its newest base in Brussels, and I am excited to be a part of its growth, both, within Germany and throughout the EU. ”

This appointment is Curtis’ ninth corporate hire in Europe in the past year, and follows the hires of Giovanni Sagramoso and Daniela Della Rosa in Milan, as well as Tony Edwards and Marc Hammerson in London. The firm added four partners through its strategic partnership with Paris corporate boutique Bichot & Associés in January, and announced in May the establishment of a new office in Brussels.
