Firm Chairman George Kahale III Becomes Three-Time Winner of the Burton Award for Distinguished Legal Writing

Curtis Chairman George Kahale III has been named as a 2026 Burton Awards winner for his article entitled “The Mobil and Conoco cases against Venezuela: the good, the bad and the ugly,” published in June 2025 by the Journal of International Dispute Settlement.

This is the third time Mr. Kahale has been honored with the award. In 2013, he won for his article entitled: “Is Investor-State Arbitration Broken?” He received his second Burton Award in 2019 for his article entitled “Rethinking ISDS.” All three articles have been the subject of extensive commentary and debate.

The Burton Award is an annual award given by the Burton Foundation in association with the Library of Congress. Honorees are selected by judges and professors from Harvard Law School, Stanford Law School and UC Berkeley Law School, among others.
