Partner Juan Perla Invited to Speak at ASIL on U.S. Foreign Relations Law

Partner Juan Perla has been invited by the Dispute Resolution Interest Group of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) to join a panel discussion on executive branch practice and recent legal developments that have significant implications for U.S. foreign relations and engagement with international organizations.

Panelists will explore key U.S. court decisions and other legal developments affecting U.S. international relations across various domains, including: foreign sovereign immunity in the context of bilateral investment treaty and human rights claims; jurisdictional conflicts between courts in commercial disputes; the degree of deference accorded to the executive branch in treaty interpretation; and U.S. extraterritoriality law. There will be a reception featuring light refreshments and drinks following the panel discussion.

The event will be held in person on Thursday, October 17th at ASIL’s Tillar House (2223 Massachusetts. Avenue, NW) from 6-8 PM. The event is free and open to the public but registration is required. For more information and to register, please click here.
