Susana Echavarria Medina is an associate in the firm’s international corporate practice, where she works on cross-border matters throughout Latin America.
Ms. Echavarria supports a broad range of international transactional and corporate matters, assisting clients across multiple jurisdictions and industries, including telecommunications, energy, and infrastructure. She provides corporate support throughout the transaction lifecycle, from structuring and due diligence through closing, on matters spanning cross-border financings and other deals.
She also supports fund structuring and investment matters, including venture capital, working with clients on the formation and operation of investment vehicles and their underlying transactions. Leveraging her multilingual skills, she is able to support multifaceted, multijurisdictional transactions and the coordination they require across borders.
Prior to joining Curtis, Ms. Echavarria worked at a boutique law firm in Bogotá, where she supported government contracting matters and assisted in contractual disputes and in arbitration proceedings. She also led advocacy efforts at a Colombian NGO, advancing initiatives in freedom of expression and human rights in the digital age. She participated in strategic litigation before national and international courts and presented at international conferences on artificial intelligence regulation, net neutrality, and public access to information.
Ms. Echavarria graduated summa cum laude with a law degree and a minor in journalism from Universidad de los Andes. She was awarded the national “Best Legal Clinic Student” distinction for her contributions to a human rights legal clinic. She also pursued additional studies in journalism at the University of California, Berkeley, and served as editor-in-chief of El Uniandino, a student-led independent newspaper.
