Waka Taniguchi is a Russian-qualified lawyer and member of the International Trade group. Her focus is on sanctions and export controls.
Ms. Taniguchi deals with a wide range of sanctions and export controls matters related to Russia, CIS countries, and Iran. She provides consultations on interpretations of Russian law in litigations involving Russian parties. Her transactional work includes preparing license applications, voluntary self-disclosures, and risk management for clients in sanctions compliance. She also does product screening under Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Foreign Direct Product Rule (FDPR) to analyze the risks and restrictions applicable to export sales.
Prior to joining Curtis, Waka worked as an in-house counsel and Export Control/Economic Security Manager at a technology company in Moscow, which sells electric devices such as semiconductors and robots. Ms. Taniguchi worked with the company’s global team from Japan and Europe to develop and improve their corporate export compliance program.
