Elena Klonitskaya and Ana Amador are Contributors to Chambers International Trade 2024 Global Practice Guide

Partner Elena Klonitskaya and Associate Ana Amador have drafted an article for the Chambers International Trade 2024 Global Practice Guide with their chapter, “Trends and Developments: Belgium.”

The article addresses the major focus of EU trade policy in 2024. In the last few months, the EU has continued prioritizing strategic autonomy, security, and a favorable business environment. On-going developments in the trade area are key in the face of the upcoming EU elections in June 2024. This article discusses important developments and challenges relating to trade agreements, export controls, trade defense, sanctions and foreign direct investment screening to strengthen economic security. In the face of the decline of multilateral settlement and increased protectionism, the EU has opted to further its strategic independence by enhancing its control mechanisms on foreign investment, third-country subsidies, and the design of an anti-coercion instrument.
