William Candelaria Joins Curtis as Partner in New York

New York, July 12, 2011 - Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP has announced that William Candelaria has joined the firm as a partner in its Corporate International practice. He will be based in New York.

Mr. Candelaria is ranked among the top Latin American Investment lawyers in the United States. He has focused his practice on corporate transactions, private equity and capital markets. Mr. Candelaria has widespread experience representing national oil companies, oil and gas services companies and their financing sources.

Mr. Candelaria brings to Curtis extensive experience in SEC-registered securities offerings, private placements, asset and stock acquisitions, structured and leveraged financings, debt restructurings, and cross-border joint ventures. He has counseled corporate clients on internal and SEC-driven investigations.

Mr. Candelaria is frequently asked to speak on a variety of legal and financing issues before major organizations including the Council on Foreign Relations, the Practicing Law Institute, the Institute of the Americas and the Harvard Law School European Law Research Center.

He earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he served as Supervising Editor of the Harvard Law Review. He received his M.A. in Latin American Studies and his B.A. in International Relations from Stanford University. Following law school, Mr. Candelaria served as law clerk to Judge Harry Pregerson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He is admitted to practice law in the states of New York and California.

Mr. Candelaria serves on the Board of Directors of the New York City Economic Development Corporation to which he was appointed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2005. He chairs the Audit committee and also is a member of the Executive and Governance Committees.

Mr. Candelaria is a member of the national Board of Directors of the Mexican American Legal Defense & Education Fund. He also serves as a Trustee of The Public Theater of New York, the nation's foremost theatrical producer of Shakespeare and new work.
