Yuri Presniakov Speaks at the Silk Road Finance and Technology Forum in Tashkent

From 24–26 August 2026, Yuri Presniakov attended and spoke at the Silk Road Finance and Technology Forum in Tashkent. The Forum was organised jointly by the Central Bank of Uzbekistan (CBU) and the Global Finance and Technology Network, a community operating under the auspices of the Central Bank of Singapore.

The event involved extensive discussions on the development of Uzbekistan’s finance and technology ecosystem, with a particular focus on venture capital and the introduction of new laws implementing Islamic finance rules in Uzbekistan, including extensive amendments to the Uzbekistan Tax Code to accommodate Islamic finance.

Mr. Presniakov presented on the risks posed by Islamic windows to conventional banking structures and the financial system as a whole, as well as the opportunities to develop Islamic finance corridors between the GCC and Uzbekistan.
