Curtis Partners Co-Chair and Speak at 5th Annual GAR Live BITs Conference

Two Curtis partners will participate in the 5th Annual GAR Live BITs conference, taking place in Washington, D.C. on May 16, 2019. Washington, D.C. managing partner Claudia Frutos-Peterson has been selected to serve as co-chair of the conference, and partner Justin Jacinto will speak on a panel.

As co-chair, Ms. Frutos-Peterson will provide the opening and closing remarks for the conference, and will moderate the GAR Live debate. The debate, structured in Oxford Union style, will explore the motion, “This house believes that the current format of investment treaty awards undermines the legitimacy of an investor-state arbitral dispute settlement.”

Mr. Jacinto will speak on the first panel, “Intra-EU BITs: The Struggle Between Courts and Arbitrators,” which will explore courts’ and arbitrators’ differing views of limitations on states’ rights and duties under EU law in light of the Achmea decision and Micula case.
