Event 30 Oct. 2023
On November 7th, John Balouziyeh will be speaking on the panel, “The Energy Transition 2023 & Beyond — Arbitration, ESG, Regulatory Issues, Choosing Seats & Investment” at the first Riyadh Arbitration Summit organized by Legal Plus and sponsored by Curtis.
John will address the deep roots of arbitration in Middle Eastern culture and Islamic law and the rich history of international arbitration in Saudi Arabia, the first country in the region to adopt an arbitration law. He will discuss recent reforms to Saudi law that allow governmental agencies to opt for arbitration to resolve disputes with investors. He will then address how Saudi Arabia’s bilateral investment treaties can be used to promote arbitration while also championing responsible international investment that upholds international human rights standards and environmental stewardship.
This exciting event will be held at the Marriott Riyadh Diplomatic Quarter and will showcase the ever changing legal landscape, with international thought-leaders sharing their knowledge, expertise and experience. Please note this conference will be conducted in English.
