Cyprien Mathié is an associate in the international arbitration group of the firm and is located in the Paris office.
Cyprien Mathié represents states, public entities and private clients in international investment and commercial arbitrations as well as in international disputes. He has acted in proceedings under the main arbitration rules, including under those of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). His areas of expertise include French arbitration law, French contract law and corporate law, as well as investment law and public international law.
Mr. Mathié has represented clients in various sectors, such as mining, oil and gas and construction. He is notably part of the team defending an African State in two commercial arbitrations and one ICSID arbitration, with total amounts in dispute exceeding $25 billion.
Mr. Mathié holds a degree in private, public and international business law as well as a Master's degree in arbitration and international trade law from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. He also completed an exchange program at Columbia Law School, where he was a research assistant to Professor George A. Bermann. During his studies, he won the Concours d'Arbitrage International de Paris (CAIP) organized by Sciences Po Paris (2019).
Prior to joining Curtis, he completed various internships, including with the United Nations International Law Commission, the OHADA Common Court of Justice and Arbitration, the Major Litigation Department of Total S.A. and several international law firms in Paris and London. He also served as a law clerk to Judge Charles N. Brower and to arbitrator Carmen Nuñez-Lagos.
