Alexandra Maier is a partner in the International Arbitration group. She has worked on a variety of cross-border cases before international tribunals and federal court proceedings representing large U.S., European and Latin American corporate clients.
Dr. Maier has served as counsel to States, national oil corporations, other state-owned entities and private companies in arbitrations under institutional and ad hoc arbitration rules, including those of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), as well as in related litigation proceedings.
Among other high-profile disputes, she acted in the successful representation of PDVSA and PDVSA Petróleo, S.A. in arbitrations against Phillips 66 Company, Republic of Ghana in the ICC cases relating to the Dunkwa gold mine and AngloGold Ashanti and Sirte Oil Company in an arbitration against an Indian construction company. Most recently, Dr. Maier was a lead member of the team representing the Republic of Kazakhstan in the UNCITRAL case brought by the gold mining exploration company Gold Pool JV.
Dr. Maier's experience also encompasses general corporate and commercial matters, including working with Curtis' Frankfurt office; litigation, including the representation of clients in post-transaction disputes; and bankruptcy and insolvency matters.
