Cross-Border Dispute Resolution: The Perspective for Russia and the CIS

On September 14 and 15, 2010, Peter Wolrich, partner (Paris), Geoffrey Lyonett, partner (Paris) and Anna Kozmenko, associate (New York) participated in the ABA Section on International Law's conference on “Cross-Border Dispute Resolution: The Perspective for Russia and the CIS” and in the ICDR/AAA Seminar for young practitioners on “Arbitration on the Edge of the Rules: When Does a Clever Procedural Tactic Become an Abuse?'

Peter Wolrich discussed and led a panel on disputes involving states and state entities and the challenges faced by Russia and other CIS countries and those opposing them in courts and tribunals. Among the panel's other speakers were representatives of Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, Energy Charter Secretariat, Russia's Energy and Manufacturing Company and the former President of International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.

Anna Kozmenko served on the planning committee for the Conference. She also facilitated the first part of the ICDR seminar discussion on “Ticking Procedural Bombs” in the arbitration rules and defenses against them.
