April 14, 2008, New York, NY - Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP partner Marco A. Blanco has been named the new Chair of the International Law and Practice Section (ILPS) of the New York State Bar Association.
On January 1, 2008, Mr. Blanco began serving his one-year term as Chair of the Section, which addresses the interests of attorneys practicing in the international area, as well as the interests of their clients. The Section advocates those interests to the New York State Bar Association, the New York State Legislature, the U.S. Congress, and bar associations across the world. Mr. Blanco was elected by a vote of the Section membership at the New York State Bar Association's Annual Meeting and took over for the Immediate Past Chair of the Section, Oliver J. Armas.
'I am honored to serve as Chair to one of the most influential and active bodies for furthering the practice of international law and promoting the rule of law on an international basis,' said Mr. Blanco. 'The increasing number of international legal transactions and disputes has made the work of the International Law & Practice Section more important now than any other point in the Section's history. I look forward to addressing the challenges of this rapidly expanding field.'
Mr. Blanco, a partner in Curtis' Tax Department and member of the International Funds Group, has over twenty years of experience on a broad range of international and domestic tax matters including corporate reorganizations, joint ventures, structured finance and capital market offerings. He has also assisted financial institutions in developing cross-border structures for their international clients, and the Firm's high net worth individual clients with respect to their international family tax planning.
Mr. Blanco is active in New York State Bar Association activities and chaired the Committee on International Tax Aspects of Trade and Investment, ILPS, in 1995. He is a member of the Union International Des Avocats (International Association of Lawyers), Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the International Bar Association, and the American Bar Association (Tax Section).
The New York State Bar Association, with more than 74,000 members, is the official organization of lawyers in New York and the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation.
