Investor-State Mediation

As part of the International Bar Association's annual conference, Curtis partner Gabriela Alvarez-Avila participated in an October 7 panel discussion on Investor-State arbitration mediation. The session explored the experience and positions of claimants and states in regard to the use of mediation in investor-state disputes, and considered whether the legal framework for the settlement of investment disputes investment should incorporate strengthened procedures for mediation of such disputes. It also discussed whether institutions administering investor-state disputes might play a greater role in supporting parties who wish to mediate investment disputes.

The International Bar Association's Annual Conference brought together more than 3,500 lawyers and legal professionals, making it the largest gathering of the international legal community. This year's conference took place October 4 - 9 in Madrid, Spain.
