Partner Charles Howland Serves as Judge for the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition

On January 9, 2021 partner Charlie Howland, chair of Curtis' Environmental group, served as an invited judge for the semi-finals of the North American round of the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition, the world's largest moot court competition devoted exclusively to global environmental issues, with regional and national rounds in Africa, Brazil, Colombia, India, Ireland, Mexico, Republic of Korea, the Philippines, as well as the United States. This year's problem, nominally before the International Court of Justice, presented issues involving protection of an endangered species (bats) and international trade, and arises in the context of a dispute between two adjoining countries over a proposed windfarm located in one country, and the other country’s use of allegedly protectionist trade measures to protect local agriculture.
