Partner Simon Batifort will moderate a panel discussion on the “Modernization and the Future of the ECT,” as part of the 12th Investment Treaty Arbitration Conference hosted by the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic on October 20, 2022. The panel will address anticipated changes to standards of treatment (such as FET, MFN and expropriation) in the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT), the impact of investment treaties on environmental protection, and intra-EU investment claims. The panel will be preceded by a presentation by Alejandro Carballo Leyda, General Counsel of the Energy Charter Secretariat, regarding the ECT modernization process.
The Investment Treaty Arbitration Conference provides a forum for senior government officials and top legal practitioners to discuss trends in international investment law and arbitration, and will take place in person this year for the first time since 2019.
