Lise Johnson Speaks at UN Side Event During Fourth UN Tax Convention Negotiations

Partner Lise Johnson recently participated in an event held alongside the Fourth Negotiating Session of the UN Tax Convention, which took place February 11, at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Convened by the International Institute for Sustainable Development, discussions addressed how the proposed Protocol on preventing and resolving disputes under the Convention should be designed. Drawing on lessons from a decade of investor-state dispute settlement reform, speakers discussed why investor-state arbitration should not be imported into the tax space, the risks associated with arbitration-based approaches, and how negotiators can avoid these pitfalls.

The panel comprised technical experts and government officials for a roundtable discussion and Q&A on the future of tax dispute resolution under the Convention.
